Cancer Moon in the garden

    • The following are the Edible Plants, Herbs, Trees and Flowers since ancient times associated with Cancer, and also with the Moon, Cancer’s traditional Ruler, the archetypal goddess of nurturing, fertility, home making, family and the sacred connection with our ancestors. The moon governing the tides is traditionally associated with all plants with a high water content, like Lettuce, Cucumbers, Celery, for instance. Also plants like Cereals and Rice, staple food for billions of people on earth, the Moon being the Great nurturing Mother of All. As well as plants, medicinal and otherwise, that produce a milky sap; medicinal herbs/plants used to soothe the stomach and improve digestion; and those that have a beneficial effect on women fertility, the health of the womb and breast, and,of course, those helpful in pregnancy and during delivery.

Cancer is a Water Sign and one of the most fertile of all Signs. Everything should do well when planted in Cancer, if the Moon is in the right phase.
Cancer is also suitable for propagating cuttings, grafting and deep irrigation.

Today the energy could be right for many activities in the garden, to make our home life more productive, self sufficient and thrifty; thus fostering cooperation and a sense of belonging too.

***

Edible Plants: Lettuce, Cucumbers, Melons (Water Melons, Rock Melon), Water Cress, Celery.

Healing Herbs: Ginseng, Papaya leaf, Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon Balm, Bay, Parsley, Aloe, Celery, Slippery Elm Bark, Evening Primrose.

Tree GlyphTrees: Laurel and all trees that produce an abundance of blossoms, like the Cherry Tree. Also those that reproduce easily by cutting or seed dispersion.

Flower Glyph pinkOrnamental and Flowering Plants: White Roses and all White Flowers, Morning Glories, Water Lily, Lotus, Southern Magnolia, Jasmine, Melon Flowers. Flowers that open up around Full Moon time are also naturally associated with the Moon, like the Datura sweet smelling and dangerous Devil’s Trumpets, known in India as Moon Flowers. This common name is also used for numerous other flowering plants that bloom during the night, from evening to dawn, like the Evening Primrose; the Crimson Red Nymphaea (Lotus) the Night Gladiolus; the Night Jasmine; the Casablanca Lily, fragrant flowers used for wedding bouquets and in perfumery; the Moon Flower of family Ipomonea (same as Morning Glory), beautiful large white flowers; Lady of the Night; Princess of the Night; Some Cactus and Succulent Flowers, all night blooming.

In the garden this is an excellent growing time: everything can go in now, but in particular leafy vegetables and all plants that we grow for their above the ground parts, but only when the Moon is transiting through the very fertile Water Signs or the productive Signs Taurus, Libra and Capricorn.

This Moon Phase in the garden

  • Note that the garden activities associated with the Moon Sign depend also on the cycle the Moon is in. The Moon transiting through a fertile or productive Sign will no be so favorable if the Phase is not a productive one, and vice-versa. For best results the Sign and Phase of the Moon have to be considered together.

The Crescent Moon Phase is an excellent time for sowing and planting because moon light is rapidly increasing now and therefore also plants’ ability to draw water from deep in the soil.

Everything can go in now, but in particular leafy vegetables and all plants that we grow for their above the ground parts, but only when the Moon is transiting through the very fertile Water Signs or the productive Signs Taurus, Libra and Capricorn.

Gemini Moon in the garden

  • The following are the Edible Plants, Herbs, Trees and Flowers since ancient times associated with Gemini, and also with Mercury, Gemini’s traditional Ruler, the archetypal god of intelligence, movement, adaptability, cunning. Those Plants with finely divided leaves, like carrots, fennel etc, are associated with Gemini, because they resemble Mercury and Gemini Airy nature. Also identified with Gemini are those medicinal plants helpful for healthy function of the brain, the nervous system and for speech related issues. As well as healing plants for improving lung function, arms and hands mobility.

Like an other Air Signs, Aquarius, in the garden Gemini is considered too dry and barren for growing anything. Its energy is suitable for cultivating, general maintenance and harvesting. Also suitable for pest control, weeding, and pruning, best done after the Last Quarter Phase.

Today the energy could be right for designing the garden, for parties and get-togethers, with friends and siblings. Also to go for long walks through gardens, roads, beaches, forests, nature, opening the lungs, strengthening limbs and clearing the mind.

***

Edible Plants: Carrots, Fennel, Parsnips.

Healing Herbs: Caraway, Dill, Parsley, Fennel, Coltsfoot, Hyssop, Anise, Lemon Balm, Mullein, Marjoram, Tancy, Vervain, Lavender, Mandrake, Horebound, Licorice, Ferns.

Tree GlyphTrees: the trees sacred to Mercury are those with airy, open canopies, also those with winged seeds, like the Elm. And some that have different texture/colour on the top and the underside of the leaves; or that display not one but two crowns (double nature of Gemini). Hazel, Elms etc.

Flower Glyph pinkOrnamental and Flowering Plants: Lavender, Lily of the Valley, Elecampane, Mosses, Maiden Hair Ferns, Orchids, Chrysanthemum, Lilacs, Azalea.

Amiable display of feeling, seeking equality, idealistic, cooperative. Beware of indecisiveness, lack of assertion, wishy-washy attitudes, peace at any cost syndrome, vanity, self indulgence.

  • In the garden Libra, unlike the other two Air Signs, Aquarius and Gemini, is traditionally considered fertile and productive. Being a Sign of Venus, goddess of pleasure and beauty, Libra is an ideal Sign to sow and transplant flowering plants and ornamental, and also herbs which help to balance the Elements in the body. Libra encourages bloom, but few seeds.

The New Moon

The VIRGO NEW MOON PHASE begins on Friday, August 30, 8.37 pm,
and ends on Tuesday, September 3, 1.06 am, with the LIBRA CRESCENT MOON PHASE

The New Moon is the beginning of the Waxing cycle, the sacred marriage of Moon and Sun, Yin and Yang, Night and Day. For three days the Moon becomes invisible. Astrologically we say that the Moon is now conjunct the Sun (on the same degree of Longitude along the Ecliptic). Every month the New Moon occurs in a different Sign. So the Aries New Moon in March/April is always followed by the Taurus New Moon in April/May and so on. New Moons are symbols of new beginning and represent a great time to start something or make important changes in our lives. The energy is right for everything new you would like to try.

  • In the garden this is traditionally a time to begin sowing and planting because the increasing Moon light will help plants to emerge and flourish. Moisture becomes more and more available as the light of the Moon intensifies, up to the Full Moon. Traditionally however no sowing or planting are recommended within twelve hours of the phase itself.

Crescent Moon

The LIBRA CRESCENT MOON PHASE begins on Tuesday, September 3, 1.06 am,
and ends on Friday, September 6, 1.10 pm, with the SAGITTARIUS FIRST QUARTER MOON PHASE

The Crescent Moon occurs half way through the first week of the Waxing cycle, when the Moon is transiting 45 degrees ahead of the Sun and looks like a beautiful crescent in the western sky after sunset. Psychologically this is an enthusiastic time, in which lots of ideas crowd our mind and we may feel that the sky is the limit. It is a slightly naïve Moon time, but also one full of hopes and dreams (the bright crescent shows now the shadowy sphere of the future Full Moon. The energy of the Moon however needs maturing at this stage and grounding. The first difficulties may appear, the first chinks in the armor; but the challenge is not strong enough yet for us to build up on it.

  • In the garden this is an excellent growing time: everything can go in now, but in particular leafy vegetables and all plants that we grow for their above the ground parts, but only when the Moon is transiting through the very fertile Water Signs or the productive Signs Taurus, Libra and Capricorn.

Sylvia Plath Astrology Birth Chart

Click the image to navigate to Sylvia Plath Astrology Page, Birth and Death Charts. Poetess Sylvia Plath was born when the Waning Moon was transiting Libra, in the Seventh House, and the Sun Scorpio, in the Eighth House. Her Ascendant fell on the cusp between Aquarius and Pisces. Her Ruling Planets were Saturn in Capricorn, in the Twelfth House, and Jupiter in Virgo, in the Seventh House. Her Libra Moon was un-aspected, meaning disconnected from the other major planetary energies in her Birth Chart. This seems significant considering the manner of her death by suicide at the age of thirty. The Moon however was linked by a perfect conjunction to the Asteroid Goddess Juno and a trine to the Asteroid Goddess Vesta. Her Mercury was in Scorpio in the Ninth House, in a T-Cross with Mars in Leo in the Sixth House (square) and Black Moon Lilith in Taurus in the Third House (opposition). Her Venus was in Virgo in perfect sextile to Pluto in Cancer. Her Chiron was in Taurus in the Third House in a Grand Trine with Saturn in the Twelfth and Venus in the Seventh Houses. Plath committed suicide, after suffering from severe bouts of depression for many years, on February 11 1963.

Crescent Moon

The LEO CRESCENT MOON PHASE starts on Saturday, July 6, 12.24 pm,

First Quarter

The LIBRA FIRST QUARTER MOON PHASE starts on Tuesday, July 9, 8.54 pm,
and ends on Saturday, July 13, at 10.57 am, with the SAGITTARIUS GIBBOUS MOON PHASE

The Moon is now 90 degrees ahead of the Sun, a right angle, very powerful. We meet some serious obstacle on our way. The goal is still strongly in view (Full Moon) but something or someone seem intent at stopping us or hinder our progress. This is the most critical point in the waxing period. It is important that we meet the challenge now, but it is also essential that we don’t go to war with people around us, blaming them for our difficulties, which are instead just a natural phase of our journey. There is something a bit black and white in this Moon’s position and the attention is perhaps focused too much on outside circumstances.

  • In the garden this is the demarcation time between the first and second weeks of the Moon cycle, an important boundary, because different types of plants can now go in, those we grow for their fruit or seedpods (tomatoes, beans etc.). The Moon needs also to be transiting a fertile or productive Sign.

VIRGO, Moon of humility and craftsmanship
Purifying and healing

The WAXING MOON TRANSITS VIRGO from Saturday, July 6, 2.25 pm,
to Monday, July 8, 4.06 pm, with the ingress into LIBRA

Suitable energy for general and menial work, in particular jobs that require attention to details and great patience, crafts, knitting, sewing, cooking, mending, cleaning, nursing, volunteering, accounting, studying, researching, testing, purifying, collecting, classifying, putting order into chaos. Purchase of craft materials and tools, collectibles, pets. Action motivated by practical needs, daily routine, taking care of the body learning to discriminate and to perfect. Timid expression of feeling, sometimes prickly, always helpful at the practical level. Beware of hyper-criticism, a calculating attitude, lack of grace, inhibitions, phobias, hypochondria, feelings of unworthiness.

  • In the garden Despite the earthy nature and the symbolic ear of corn in the Maiden’s left hand* Virgo is considered barren. Plants will supposedly grow spindly, tough and woody if planted on the Virgo Moon. The Sign is great however for tidying up the garden, work bee days, and fertilizing.
  • Healing Herbs: Blackberry, Fennel, Flax.
A note: the garden activities associated with the Moon Sign depend also on the cycle the Moon is in. The Moon transiting through a fertile or productive Sign will no be so favorable if the Phase is not a productive one, and vice-versa. The LEO CRESCENT MOON PHASE starts on Friday, June 7, 6.42 am,
and ends on Monday, June 10, 3.59 pm, with the VIRGO FIRST QUARTER MOON PHASE

The Crescent Moon occurs half way through the first week of the Waxing cycle, when the Moon is transiting 45 degrees ahead of the Sun and looks like a beautiful crescent in the western sky after sunset. Psychologically this is an enthusiastic time, in which lots of ideas crowd our mind and we may feel that the sky is the limit. It is a slightly naïve Moon time, but also one full of hopes and dreams (the bright crescent shows now the shadowy sphere of the future Full Moon. The energy of the Moon however needs maturing at this stage and grounding. The first difficulties may appear, the first chinks in the armour; but the challenge is not strong enough yet for us to build up on it.

  • In the garden this is an excellent growing time: everything can go in now, but in particular leafy vegetables and all plants that we grow for their above the ground parts, but only when the Moon is transiting through the very fertile Water Signs or the productive Signs Taurus, Libra and Capricorn.

The New Moon

The GEMINI NEW MOON PHASE starts on Monday, June 3, 8.01 pm,
and ends on Friday, June 7, 6.42 am, with the LEO CRESCENT MOON PHASE

First Quarter

The CANCER FIRST QUARTER MOON PHASE starts on Saturday, April 13, 5.05 am,
and ends on Tuesday, April 16, 2.09 pm, with the VIRGO GIBBOUS MOON PHASE
