FROM THE CAPRICORN SOLSTICE TO THE ARIES EQUINOX
By the time this article will be in print the historic opposition Saturn-Neptune, exact at the time of writing (end of August 2006), will still be active, but losing some of its strength. It will regain momentum however in the first half of 2007. This is a difficult combination of energies, Saturn and Neptune standing for antithetical forces, the Earth bound and the Heavenly, the Pragmatic and the Mystic, Order and Chaos, Matter and Spirit. Up to now it seems to have brought much anguish to many and a general sense of hopelessness in witnessing humanity blind choices and the repeating of painful history, while compassion and empathy have also been heightened. Structures that seemed indispensable may now be swept away and leave us with a sense of the uncanny and the chaotic, also with a more grounded knowledge of the frailty of our material achievements and defences. We’ll need to sacrifice something, let go of some illusions about ourselves and the world, in order to grow. New spiritual values may be born out of this novel awareness. When we realize that lofty aspirations are not sufficient and we need to practice what we preach and make a lip of faith into the unknown. And in the face of events that cannot be avoided one needs to relinquish the illusion of ego cantered power, and give in into a greater power. Assimilating this transit’s profound message will be easier at the time of its second and third passes (February 28 and June 26, 2007). Most challenged, but also rewarded are Leo born August 9 to 18; Aquarius born February 6 to 15; Scorpio born November 9 to 18; Taurus born May 6 to 15.
Between September and November the Moon Nodes, in Virgo and Pisces, will be at right angle (90˚) to Pluto in Sagittarius. Around the same time Jupiter will form positive transits with the same Lunar Nodes. Astrologically this could be described as a particularly ‘karmic’ period, confronting us with depths of resentment and hurt we didn’t know about, while providing also the will to investigate those issues that we may have chosen to ignore or preferred not to acknowledge in the past, injustice and wrongs that have not yet been addressed. These transits could also help us to look into our own darkness before we begin exploring others’. They could have a purifying and strengthening effect, making available to us great resources and survival skills, physically and psychologically. Sagittarius, born December 15 to 19, Gemini, born June 14 to 18, Virgo, born September 16 to 20, Pisces, born March 14 to 18, Cancer, born July 17 to 19, and Scorpio, born November 17 to 19, will all experience in various ways the transforming energy of this transit more intensely than others.
On November 24 Jupiter will finally shift the cosmic balance of power, entering the Sign of Sagittarius, a year long transit that should help to liberate the collective psyche from the clutches of unconscious and destructive emotional undercurrents, and power struggles, and lead us toward a more hopeful and idealistic philosophy of life. This could manifest in the coming months into a resurgence of popular protest and civil unrest, a new attempt at peaceful revolution. On January 23 2007, as Jupiter reaches the right angle to Uranus, a new challenge will arise between traditional and well tested spiritual values versus emerging new values, to meet the needs of a different world. In particular aware of this transit will be Sagittarius, born December 4 to 7, but also Gemini, born June 2 to 5, Virgo, born September 4 to 7, and Pisces, born March 2 to 5. Extremes of weather are possible, due to the volatile nature of both Planets (Jupiter, god of thunder and lightening, Uranus, god of high winds and sudden wreckage).
A cosmic view at the recent past and near future: the much discussed Saturn-Neptune opposition is part of a bigger picture: Saturn, during the past six years and for the next four, is in fact slowly orbiting opposite all the major bodies in the solar system, in this sequence: Saturn in Gemini opposition Pluto in Sagittarius (2001-2002) – Saturn in Cancer opposition Chiron in Capricorn (2004-2005) – Saturn in Leo opposition Neptune in Aquarius (2006-2007) – Saturn in Virgo/Libra opposition Uranus in Pisces/Aries and also Jupiter in Aries (2009/2010). Such oppositions often manifest as direct confrontations between seemingly irreconcilable views, creating strife and intolerance, while their positive effect is to enhance our ability to harmonize and integrate the same opposites.
It is easy enough to see the connections astrologers are making between these traditionally powerful transits and the dramatic and unprecedented events and developments happening on the world stage: wars, terrorism, nuclear weapon proliferation, global warming, ecological degradation, just to mention a few. At the same time we are also participating in or witnessing the birth of a new awareness in the Peace, Green and Spiritual movements all over the globe, envisioning an Earth Mandala, not fractured into nationalities and racial/religious divisions, but unified by our common humanness and spiritual heritage. We will witness many more memorable changes toward the end of this Decade and the beginning of the next, when astrologically all the deep space Planets will, in close sequence, change their Sign’s position, thus ushering a new epoch in the history of mankind. Pluto will enter Capricorn in 2008; Uranus Aries in 2010; Neptune Pisces in 2011. Not another doom prophecy, rather a becoming aware, thanks to Astrology, of the fact that we are all in for changes that will certainly impact upon our lives, and should ultimately help us to become more truly ‘human’. I feel, with many others, that Astrology has an important role to play in the growth of this global consciousness, and potentially in the healing of the Planet.
