The Astrology of the New Zealand Earthquake, February 22, 2011

Another natural disaster, not so far from home. Christchurch, second largest city in New Zealand, was hit by a deadly earthquake on Tuesday, February 22, 12.51 pm (local New Zealand’s Summer time, 13 hours East of Greenwich).

Christchurch’s region lays on the so called Pacific Ring of Fire, stretching from the South Pacific through Papua New Guinea, South-East Asia, all the way to the North and South-West coast of the American continent.

Along the 40.000 km rim are found 453 active volcanoes. Tectonic plates collide on a regular basis along this rim.

New Zealand is hit by earth tremors whenever the adjoining Pacific and Australian plates collide, which happens often, not always with such devastating results (pictures compliment of abc.net.au and History.com).

This quake wasn’t as powerful (6.3 magnitude) as  the one that occurred in the same place, on September 4, 2010 (7.1 magnitude), but it was shallow, 5 km deep, and the epicenter only 10 km south of the town.

Seventy five bodies have been recovered so far, but many more people are still listed as missing, so the death toll is likely to rise.

Even Christchurch 19th century cathedral, together with many modern buildings, now lay in ruins.

Here is the Chart of the moment the deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck.

We are looking here at the earthquake as a moment in time. This Chart has been cast with the coordinates of Lyttelton, the quake’s epicenter.

I immediately recognized similarities between this Horoscope and that of Yasi, the category 5 cyclone that hit North Queensland on February 3 2011. Here is my Cyclone Yasi post, if interested.

In both instances the Fixed Signs were on the Four Angles when disaster struck (Ascendant, Descendant, Mid-Heaven and Lower Heaven); with the so called Violent Signs of Taurus and Scorpio on the Horizon: Taurus on the Ascendant in Christchurch, and Scorpio, its complementary opposite Sign, on the Ascendant in Tully. Taurus was on the Ascendant in Tully too, by the way, at the time of the Aquarius New Moon, at midday on the same day as the cyclone.

As I stated on the post on Yasi, Taurus and Scorpio, and the Fixed Signs in general, are traditionally linked to violent events, such as quakes, volcanic eruptions, extreme weather, accidents and conflicts. These Signs in fact offer more resistance to change than other Signs, therefore the impact of whatever happens becomes more obvious when they are involved in any configuration.

Another similarity is the prominent position of the largest Asteroid Ceres, conjunct the Sun and Moon at the time of the cyclone, and most elevated of all celestial bodies at the time of the NZ earthquake.

Ceres was known to the Greeks as Demeter, ancient Goddess of Fertility, one of Goddesses representative of Mother Earth. She was venerated as the Goddess of the Harvest and also of Mourning, because of her connection with the Persephone myth. Persephone, once known simply as Kore, the Maiden, was in fact Demeter’s daughter, the same who was kidnapped by Hades (the Roman Pluto), God of the underworld; the same for whom the mother mourned during the barren winter months, until she was returned to her in the spring time. Ceres’ prominent position in this particular Horoscope doesn’t seem a positive sign as far as the quake’s final death toll is concerned.

In the earthquake Chart what really sticks out is the cluster of celestial bodies between the end of Aquarius and the beginning of Pisces, all in the prominent Tenth House or very close to it: Mars and Neptune are conjunct on the 28th and 29th degrees of Aquarius, while Mercury, Chiron and the Sun are conjunct on the first degrees of Pisces.

The conjunction of the Sun and Mercury to Chiron and the approaching one of Mars to Chiron are strengthening the notion that Chiron relates to collective suffering and the need to accept unavoidable pains in this far from perfect world.

The conjunction Mars-Neptune is the most interesting aspect, being very close to the Mid-Heaven at the time, with Ceres most elevated of all planets, and also because they are connected by aspect to Uranus, on the 29th degree of Pisces, and the Lunar Nodes on the 29th degree of Sagittarius and Gemini. This means, of course, that Uranus is in perfect 90 degrees angle (square) to the Nodes, just as he prepares to enter Aries for good (March 12).

Uranus is the King of the Unexpected and the Sudden, those events, in life and within our human psyche, which seem to happen without a warning, out of the blue, with often destructive results, forcing, as it were, major adjustments, through shocks and abrupt u-turns that can leave us shaken and changed in profound ways. The fact that Uranus is now on the cusp of the most active and impulsive Sign of the Zodiac is not help, but rather enhance the violent character of some of the events connected with it.More of this type of events can be expected during Uranus’ 7 years transit through Aries, in particular perhaps from June 2011 when Jupiter will enter the earthquake Sign of Taurus.

We shouldn’t forget also that, while Mars, Neptune and Ceres are on the Mid-Heaven, Uranus actually rules, together with Saturn, the Sign of Aquarius on the cusp of the Mid-heaven, symbolically deciding the nature of the outcome or the outward manifestation of that particular moment.

Not only Uranus is here at right angle to the Nodes, symbolizing the collective destiny of the time, but the Nodes happen to be in the VIII House of Death and Loss, together with Pluto, God of the underworld. To add to this, Mars, a well known catalyst, whose role is often to precipitate events, is connected to the same Uranus (semi-sextile) and Lunar Nodes (sextile and trine), but also to Pluto, via a minor aspect known as a Septile (51.4 degrees distance, based on the division of the circle by 7), an aspect indicative of transcendental influences at work.

I would like to explore a little the importance of the Nodes in this Chart. As you know the Lunar Nodes are connected to Eclipses, their positions showing where Eclipses occur at any given times. The fact that Uranus and Mars are here linked by aspect to the Nodes means then that there is a relation between the earthquake and recent Eclipses too, in particular the Total Lunar Eclipse that occurred on December 21, 2010, the day of the Capricorn Solstice (important date often used to forecast events in the year ahead). That Eclipse happened on the 29th degree of the Signs Gemini (Moon) and Sagittarius (Sun).

Obviously both Mars and Uranus are very much linked with this all important Eclipse event, because same degrees along the zodiacal wheel are always connected by aspect and meaning. In this case Uranus is linked to the Lunar Eclipse by square and Mars by trine and sextile. We can say then that, at the moment of the quake, the time was ripe for what had been already promised by the Eclipse.

The correlation between Uranus (sudden -destructive events), the Lunar Nodes (collective destiny), and Mars (cosmic catalyst) appears even more significant when we look at the December Eclipse Chart relocated to Christchurch. Here is this amazing Chart.

Total Lunar Eclipse of December 21, 2010, in Christchurch, New Zealand

The Lunar Eclipse was right on the horizon of Christchurch, with the Full Moon rising on the East, just as the Eclipse began, while the Sun was setting in the West! Both Sun and Moon were, at the time, at right angle (squares) to the conjunction Jupiter Uranus on the Mid-Heaven, while Mars was then separating from a conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn!

Another aspect of this configuration, which I feel is important, is the nature of the degrees we are considering, being the last degrees of  some of the Signs involved, cusps between Signs, degrees of change and transformation. These Cusp degrees are sometimes called Critical Degrees, indicating moment of crisis and change for the function of the planet/s placed there. We have seen many of these last or Cusp Degrees activated recently, with all the Full Moons, since September 2010, happening on a Cusp between Signs, the last, few days before the earthquake, on February 18, with the Moon on the 29th degree of Leo, Cusp Virgo, and the Sun on the 29th degree of Aquarius, Cusp Pisces. This last Full Moon was also closely involved with Mars and Neptune, as they were both conjunct the Sun.

These considerations seem to indicate that the conjunction Mars-Neptune was very significant for this event (as well as the recent conjunction of Sun and Mercury also to Neptune, and their passage into the Water Sign of Pisces). A literal reading of such a conjunction could be ‘accidents at sea’. Now Lyttelton, the quake’s epicenter, is a coastal village, and New Zealand is made up of two major islands, a place surrounded by sea.

Another observation that also seem to put the Critical or Cusp Degrees to the fore of this event is the fact that in the Birth Chart of New Zealand (January 17, 1853, midnight, Wellington) Pluto was on the 29th degree of Aries, and Mars on the 28th degree of Capricorn (conjunct the Sun), respectively in semi-sextile and sextile with transiting Uranus, and, of course, also connected with the recent Lunar Eclipse.

Below it is a two-wheels Chart, with New Zealand Constitution Chart in the inner wheel and the earthquake’s Chart in the outer wheel.

Many more observations can be made about this event from an astrological viewpoint: what about the fact that the Moon and Saturn were in the VI House of Work and Daily Routine. at the time of the quake? Compare this position with the Moon and Sun position in the Yasi event, in the IV House of Home. Most people (represented by the Moon in a Mundane Chart like this one) were busy at work or study the moment the quake hit, the building taking the more direct hit being office buildings, where rescue personnel are now looking for survivors.

Saturn was heavily aspected on the day too, 135 degrees (sesqui-square) to Chiron, the Sun and Mercury, in trine to the Mid-Heaven (and ruling it, with Uranus), still in square and Mutual reception to Venus in Capricorn, apart, of course, from his all important conjunction to the Moon.

The transiting Moon was also just separating from a conjunction to Saturn, Lord of karma, and from a 90 degrees angle to Venus in Capricorn (the latter still in orb of square to Saturn), all aspects that can manifest in sadness, pessimism and emotional hurt, especially as they activate the XII House in the New Zealand’s Birth Chart, a place where things need to be accepted because they cannot be changed, being beyond anyone’s control. Both the Moon and Saturn were transiting the so called Via Combusta (literally the burning path or road), the zodiacal area spanning from the middle of Libra to the middle of Scorpio. This area was considered unfortunate, having an effect similar to the negative effects of some Eclipses. This notion was probably derived from the presence of difficult Fixed Stars in this area of the Sidereal Zodiac (the Zodiac of the Constellations).

Out of pure Mercury in Gemini’s curiosity I looked up also the Birth Chart of the Anglican 19th century cathedral that was nearly completely destroyed by the quake.

I chose as the birth time the day the cathedral was consecrated, on November 1, 1881. Because I don’t know the time of the official event I have cast a Chart for sunrise on that day.

Here it is.

Christchurch Cathedral Consecration date, November 1, 1881, sunrise

This Chart is also very interesting, in the light of the recent events. The Sun was in Scorpio that day and in opposition to Saturn in Taurus (a difficult aspect for a building, Saturn signifying the structure of the same and its durability). We can observe even here the influence of the Fixed, Earthquake Signs of Scorpio and Taurus. The cathedral was damaged by an earthquake only one month after the consecration ceremony and, more severely, on occasion of the September 1, 1888 earthquake, and other earth tremors following.

Please note the position of the Moon, on the 28th degree of Aquarius, conjunct the transiting Neptune, Mars and Mid-Heaven of the recent quake’s Chart. That’s something!

I’m sure this chart could reveal more about the fate of this building, but I’m running out of time, and i can’t go there now.

One last important transit that I want to include in this reading is the powerful Jupiter square Pluto, that will be exact on Saturday, February 26, but has been close for days. This aspect definitely spells earthquake, as well as war and mayhem, all events that resonate well with this fateful week. Jupiter, as we know, tends to magnify the effects of all planets he comes in contact with, in this case Pluto, the symbolic ruler of the underworld, presiding over experiences of death, loss and transformation.

A positive outcome of this transit would be a strong stimulus toward radical reforms, including the toppling of people who abuse their power, or even organized crimes leaders, as it is has happened in Egypt, and now in Libya and many other countries in the Middle East. This transit also shows the possibility of a strong resistance from these same individual and the possibility of war and bloodshed.

But that’s another story, hopefully my next post.

Interesting analysis. What came to mind to add to the Mars/Neptune factor is the extent of the liquification, damage to water and sewage systems and the fact that Christchurch is really built on the swampy estuary flats. Did you see on the media that whirlpool of mud in the middle of a street?

    • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Glad to hear from you again, Alrisha. And thank you for your contribution.
Yes, the all thing is a mine of astrological factors. Food for thought. These are the sorts of synchronicities that make the study of Astrology so rewarding. Also great boosts for the doubting Thomas in all of us.
Hope to see you soon and have another astrological conversation. All the best, Paola Emma

    Hi Paola Emma

Nice expose’ here with some sound observations. One of the items that you might wish to add here, as you are including eclipse effects, is the Total Solar eclipse of July 2010 near 18 degrees Cancer. I made some comments on my blog in an article on this eclipse (Link); particularly when considering the path for that eclipse ( Link), the Pacific Plate affected by this eclipse path ( Link) , and also that the degree of Cancer is very close to Pluto’s North Node, as well as Saturn’s. The recent passage of Mars through Capricorn in opposition to the July 2010 eclipse, and in tow with the Partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn also plays into the July 2010 chart as an additional trigger.

Lastly, if you post a chart (even a Noon chart is fine) for Christchurch ( Aug 31 1856 ,172°E38′, 43°S32′, Noon- MC on 10th) you may note that this chart is getting a Jupiter return in alignment with the final Ju-Pl square; and that (unfortunately), this area of is likely to continue to have tectonic activity as Uranus (re)enters Aries and begins applying another hard aspect to Pluto (and Natal Jupiter in this chart).

Just tossing in a few more pieces of this puzzle. The entire Zone as indicated by that July eclipse is now being very much activated (including Chile!).

    Cheers!

    EH

Thank you, EH Cazimi, very interesting observations!
I have been intrigued by the role of Eclipses on the many natural and unnatural events that are taking place on a daily basis. And also by the critical degrees of the recent Full Moons.
A study of National and Personal Charts with these degrees activated could prove very rewarding, if one could find the time, with big news arriving on an hourly basis.
At the moment, while Saturn hovers on my Natal Neptune and Uranus is very close to squaring Natal Sun, I am flooded with ideas and fired up by countless projects, while my electrical and financial resources are dwindling. Necessary frustrations, trying to cure my self from computer dependency, and realize that once I use to cast Charts by hand, with an Ephemeris and few Tables on my lap, by candle light.
Autumn is on is way though, and the weather is now milder. Hope it will last, ’til the new season sets in. The cool helps the brain to function.
Always love your post and knowledge. Faithfully, Paola Emma

Regarding the “birth” of New Zealand, one needs to keep in mind that NZ wasn’t born when the British Crown / White People instituted their Constitution.

The original inhabitants made the big mistake of trying to share with the White People who came to their island and now they have the “short end of the stick”! They do call the body of water to the north of the north island the Bay of Plenty. Life was easy. The land was rich.

I would love to know, from the point of the indigenous people of New Zealand (The Maori) how their sovereign rights are likely or unlikely to be restored. Over time the Maori have lost more and more of their lands, fishing rights, mineral rights, etc.

They were there hundreds of years longer than the British and had a substantial culture. Most are living in poverty while everyone else benefits from the land and riches. Their remaining lands are being called a National Park. As a fishing society, fishing permits are so expensive that they cannot afford them anymore.

Do these earth changes mean anything for them?

Do you see New Zealand and Australia becoming free of the Crown? If so, when is that aspected? It was put up for a vote in Australian in a recent election and almost passed.

    Thanks

    • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Hi Muriah, thank you for your contribution.
Those are big questions you ask. All I can say is that not for a very long time we have seen planetary configurations so conducive to radical changes, at all levels of society. Those changes have also a lot to do with restoring human rights like those of aboriginal populations all around the globe.
In particular the passage of Neptune in the Sign of Pisces (first in early April this year, for good in 2012, and for the next 14 years) could contribute to put into place humanitarian and egalitarian laws to address many social injustices.
To actually make an astrological prediction on the timing of these changes would take a careful assessment of all the planetary configurations active in the next few years, with reference to specific countries like New Zealand and Australia. A big job!
One sure way to uphold your causes is to discuss them, in as many public forums as you can, thus making more and more people aware of them.
The best for everything. Cheers, Paola Emma

    • EH Says:

      Hi Muriah

      Per your question:

“Do you see New Zealand and Australia becoming free of the Crown? If so, when is that aspected? It was put up for a vote in Australian in a recent election and almost passed. ”

.. I’m not sure in the precise context you are asking. But actually, there is another chart for New Zealand ; that of the granting of Dominion status within the British Empire on 26 September 1907.

However, according to Nick Campion’s notes:

“It should be noted that, although effectively independent in all respects, the country has constitutional links with the U.K.”

… So as far as any ‘complete’ freedom is concerned, in today’s materialistic, greed-driven world, unless the people really get involved in change, things are likely to continue as ‘business as usual’. But who knows? ;-)

Paola Emma: You might wish to comment on this chart, in tow with the Christchurch chart, per this Quake; as you may note a focal point in early Libra, as well as a 16 degree Taurus moon; near the recent passage/ conjunction of Sun-Mars in Aquarius.

      Cheers!

      EH

      • Muriah Says:

        Extracted from the website above.

“The shift from colony to dominion was a change of name only. It had no practical effect. New Zealand was no more and no less independent from Britain than it had been before.

Dominion status was more about perceptions – and perceptions matter. Other parts of the Empire also became dominions at this time, for they wanted a distinct status that would not confuse them with lesser ‘colonies’.”

Australians and New Zealanders as a whole don’t want to be under the Crown. For one, why send money to the Crown when they have needs of their own. This land was stolen from the indigenous populations. The Maori were generous hosts and in the process lost their homeland. They said, sure, we can live alongside of you. They originally shared in the tribal way: you grow taro, we raise sheep, you bring the pig, they raise apples, you are the doctor. Then one chief was quoted as saying “Is the whole white tribe going to come to the Land of the Long White Cloud?”

        Thanks for your input.

      • EH Says:

        Hi Muriah

It would be interesting to see if you can get the data for the
        recently parted leader.

        Per your comment:

“The shift from colony to dominion was a change of name only.
It had no practical effect. New Zealand was no more and no less
independent from Britain than it had been before.”

        {…}

“Australians and New Zealanders as a whole don’t want to be under the Crown.
For one, why send money to the Crown when they have needs of their own.
This land was stolen from the indigenous populations. The Maori were generous
hosts and in the process lost their homeland. They said, sure, we can live
alongside of you. They originally shared in the tribal way: you grow taro,
we raise sheep, you bring the pig, they raise apples, you are the doctor.
Then one chief was quoted as saying Is the whole white tribe going to come
to the Land of the Long White Cloud?”

If you really go digging into this, you’re likely to be opening a can of worms.
On my side of the pond, as one with some Native American roots, this same sort of
thing occurred back in the 19th Century when the ‘White Man’ did his ‘Manifest Destiny”
in the (then) US of A. He (known by the Red Men as “White Eyes” ‘negotiated’ (sic) with
the different tribes in order to secure lands for the greed-driven entrepreneurs to
secure mineral rites and build Railroads through the Indian lands. He then usually
renegged on his Treaties, leaving the Tribes in a state of dismay; and when they ‘retaliated’
        they were branded as ‘Savages’ and ‘Heathens’, and then displaced to reservations;
many of whom died in the process of relocation.

Of astrological interest here is that the time frame for this was about 170 years ago; about when
Neptune was in Aquarius-Pisces. So is it any wonder that with Neptune again having been in Aquarius,
that we are seeing a repeat of this sort of thing with either indigenous Tribes
(this also, BTW is happening in the Amazon Rainforest with the peoples there); or with cultures that are propagandized into ‘terrorists’ in order to exploit their oil or other natural resources?

As for the ‘Crown’, depite what some astrologers regard as the Independence chart for the USA, the Void Moon
in that chart (Moon= common people) has always suggested to me that the US may not have become as ‘Independent’
(in the long term) as some may believe.

In these times one must always ask the question: ‘Cui Bono?” – Who benefits? The semantics of interpretation
at that point regarding ‘Dominion’ may be moot.

So as said, we can only hope that people will not only start waking up, but also take initiative
(Uranus in Aries) and action with what they come to realize and understand.

        Cheers!

        EH

    Hey thanks for the input.

A propitious event recently occurred for the Maori. The 97 year old matriarch (Oxford Grad) of the Tuhoe tribe passed on Dec 21, 2010, the Winter Solstice and Lunar eclipse! What a time to pass! Over 4,000 came to honor her from all over Polynesia and Australia. A new matriarch is now in place and the Maori are calling back the most educated and dedicated tribal members to specifically and professionally organize their efforts. I hope that they find “the forces that be” allow them to protect their culture and tribal rights. Prayers and good aspects for the Maori!

    • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Hi Muriah, what a great story! And what a special time to pass and be remembered to inspire generations to come! If you are aware perhaps of the Tuhoe matriarch’s date and place of birth I would be glad to be able to cast her Chart.
As my colleague EH Cazimi said the power to be will always struggle against any truly meaningful changes. To empower ourselves we have to start somewhere and this is a great time to do it.
      Thanks again, Paola Emma

      • Muriah Says:

I will try and get her data though probably no one was wearing a watch in Samoa (?) when she was born. Her name was A’ka which means sun. She was the one who worked for 30 years to gain the return of the severed and tattooed heads of chiefs that were taken as war booty and had been placed in a museum in London.

The Tuhoe (Children of the Mist) tribe is one of the most powerful tribes of the Maori. Most refused to sign the Treaties that were forced on them over 160 years of torment. All of New Zealand was their’s, now they have so little.

A’ka always stood up for her people and the Royals of England. She said, “When you come to my country you come through me!” She supported the youth being sent off to schools in far away lands so that they would be educated.

The Mormons caused lots of other problems for the Maori. They had them cover their breasts and wear white. They participated in taking the land of the Maori.

Perhaps what would be most interesting is to look at the chart of the new matriarch as she is the one guiding the tribe at this time of change. That info will be easier to get also.

The tattoos of the Maori are often star charts, ocean currents, stories of their people. In my mind I have visualized them on a long journey aboard a Polynesian outrigger. The navigator says to the other, turn around let me see the tattoo chart on your back so that we know if we are on course. There was an animation with a girl in it who went through a transformation and ended up wearing this blue suit and it had star charts all over it. Tatoos as star charts. Pretty interesting.

My partner’s brother was a master navigator because he knew the currents and the stars. Guess how little time it takes to go from New Zealand to Africa if you know what you are doing? Just 4 days! Of course you don’t just leave on any day. You have to leave on the right day according to the currents, stars and wind. What a culture.

This is just one thing being lost with the destruction of this culture by the White-White man (the Crown, the land grabbers, the Mormons, the greedy ones) in New Zealand. Yes there are whites who are friends of and are tired of the abuses of the Maori. They are called the Pakeha.

I will try and get you some info on A’ka and the new chief. It would be good to know what the stars say. My gut feels good about this shift. With A’ka blazing out on the Lunar Eclipse in her home of New Zealand, with the phenomenal honoring of her passing by 4,000, with the new matriarch in place (a teacher who lived abroad for many years) and is of a generation empowered by worldliness yet love their cultural roots……….. this could be their moment. With all the changes in the Middle East, people standing up, the energy is rising. I love the feel of the shift. When the earth becomes unstable we must spread our legs and take a broad stand.

Thank you again for your interest and help. Let me gather the data for you.

      • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Hi Muriah, thank you so much for the great input. It is fascinating. I write also to share with you a moment of synchronicity that happened yesterday, unbeknown to me, at first.
After reading your first comment I was surfing the net for a few minutes looking for an animation that i could put on my site. i wanted something about New Zealand’s earthquakes from a Maori viewpoint.
I though I could find a myth or legend, made into an animation, to explain the origins of this strange land, alive with volcanoes and hot springs.
Few seconds into my search I came across a beautiful animation about the origins of the Turtle and the Shark, but I decided I couldn’t use it because it wasn’t about earthquakes or volcanoes, and it wasn’t for NZ either, but from Samoa.
And then you tell me that the matriarch was a Samoan! I will search again for that animation and put it in anyway! I will also look for the one you mention, with the girl’s transformation into a star map, very appropriate to an astrological site.
Keep up the good work, Paola Emma

  5. Muriah Says:

Working on the dates for you. Thanks for your interest and support. I love the intensity of the times. Shifting is good.

The Maori are up and down from New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Hawaii.

I think the animation might be Aliens vs Monsters.

  6. Muriah Says:

For a group who think that they are “civilized” we are pretty deplorable. Probably more of us are mixed than we know, I am. My mix could make me the great great grand daughter of of a runaway slave, one who fled Wounded Knee and a descendant of an Irish slave of the English. I always did like Muts. Can’t help but route for the under dog and somehow am tied to the Maori path. My astro-cartography says to retire in Pago Pago. Hmmmm. More later.

  7. Muriah Says:

Oh my gosh. Who was there first? Now all of a sudden the Tuhoe are being unreasonable? Who was there first and who is holding the short end of the stick? Any White-White person there aught to be happy to be allowed to stay because if they didn’t steal the land, their forefathers did. Incredulous! Of course they are mad and now the stars allow them to speak up and demand. The Urewea National “ParK” that they want to build a road through is the only “tribal” land left. It’s like…. we are going to put give you a “reservation” and now we want to build a park through and take control of that remaining land away from you. The way that land was taken is like this. Someone comes to visit you and they gift you with an axe made of metal. Then later they come back and say you owe them. But you have no money so they say, we’ll take all this land over here. Or, they bug you for 100 year to survey your land. You don’t believe in “owning” land. You say no. They keep coming back. More and more Maori get scared and feel like if they let the British survey their land then “at least” they will have rights to that track of land. The Tuhoe who mostly said no to title of land and surveying now are about to lose what they have held out for, The Ureweras, which is now called a “national park”. Yeah right! It is what is left after the beach, the land along the river, etc was all stolen. Yes there are White people there, the Pakehas. They know what is happening. They are now tired of the land grab. Let the Maori at least have this tid bit of land, The Ureweras. It is farm land, mountains, river. It was always theirs. Let them have that small piece. Silly White-white people just don’t know when to quit. And, I am a White looking person but my dna is not all white. I feel for them. This is not fair or reasonable. So funny that they think that the Maori is discriminating!!! No. They are standing up. yes.

After Aka’s death the new tribal chief of the Tuhoe, Teti Poi (Bright Light), a teacher by trade spent 6 weeks educating, informing and aligning a group of almost 400 tribal members. Asking them to leave behind the old ways of war and instructing them on her plan to move forward with the direction of the tribe. She was firm and direct.

Teti Poi then flew to England to negotiate a new relationship with the Crown. At 5pm their time, with the Queen and members of Parliament peace has been stuck between two old enemies through peaceful ways, leaving the past in the past and with a mutual willingness to move forward in a good way.

The amazing thing is that today, Aka’s birthday, the Tuhoe tribe have acquired their sovereign rights: a nation inside of a nation, fishing rights, mineral rights and land title. The warring days of the past are in the past.

We cry tears of joy. Then end of a long history of suffering is over. Justice of the indigenous people of New Zealand!

Let me know what you learn of this date, the birthday of Aka.

Thank you Muriah for sharing this wonderful news with us. I’ll certainly be looking at this birthday and the significance for NZ as a whole.
It is a synchronicity that just yesterday I was trying to express in words how the Horoscope of influential, or somewhat special individuals, keep on producing effects from transits, even after their bodies have passed away, thus affecting the community they once lived in. I was making two examples of this phenomenon: the beatification of Australian nun Mary MacKillop, that happened hundred after her death, and the canonization of John Paul II, six years after his death.
I was interested in finding out if future terrorist events could be linked to the Chart of the now deceased Osama Bin Laden, because the effect of ‘posthumous transits’ could be either positive or negative.

Thank you for your efforts in chronicling this event / time.

Though it appears that the matriarchal chief, Teti Poi, was the one who accomplished this on her own. I want to affirm the men who took a hard stand and paid an incredible price so that a woman could accomplish what she did with such ease.

These people, the Tuhoe of the Maori, were the ones who had the hardest path with the Crown. After hundreds of years they have finally earned their place in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

Great thanks to the women of the world and the peace that they bring.

May the dance of joy resound around the World. The celebration has begun.

Interesting post thanks just a comment – just checked the chch data though on here http://www.christchurch.org.nz/about/history.asp and chh was declared a city on July 31st not August of 1856 as mentioned above – is that the event you were referring to EH?

    • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Hi Faye, thank you for contacting me. I’ll look into my sources as soon as I can. Not much time today. It has been a while and I don’t even remember where I got the information from. I feel that we must be talking about different events.
I will get back to you, via another comment on my site. Ciao for now, Paola

    • Living Moon Astrology Says:

Hi again, Faye, looking back at my Christchurch earthquake post, I realized that your question was actually for EH and so we should refer it back to him.
In any case his comment was sound, because there is only a difference of two degrees between the position of Retro Jupiter at the end of July and at the end of August 1856 (09 and 07 respectively).
The transiting Jupiter, at the time of the February 2011 event, was on 06 degree of Aries, close enough to both position to be returning and also to be considered aligned to the Jupiter-Pluto square.
      Cheers, Paola
